Computer systems design and film supply support

The rig yard behind

quiet film sets RIG

Sloth Motion Production Limited prepares drape rigs, light stands and grip truck loadouts from its Kwai Chung goldfield store at Rm C 5/F Goldfield Indl Bldg Blk 1, 144 Tai Lin Pai Rd, Kwai Chung, Hong Kong - 999077, Hong Kong (HK). Every pull sheet and every counterweight stem is checked before it leaves the yard, so a crew can walk in with a shot list and walk out with a working set. Our team also supports the technical side of production, from computer integrated systems design for playback and data handling to the quiet logistics that keep a shoot day moving.

A yard built around drape, rig and shoot

Most equipment houses sell boxes. We run a working yard. Sloth Motion Production Limited keeps drape stock on a rail, weights on a stand and truck loadouts on pull sheets, so the distance between a plan and a lit set stays short. That discipline comes from years of paper-and-ruler production work and from a simple belief that a tidy yard produces a calm shoot day.

The store at Rm C 5/F Goldfield Indl Bldg Blk 1, 144 Tai Lin Pai Rd, Kwai Chung, Hong Kong - 999077, Hong Kong (HK) is the base of that work. Crews arrive, walk the crates, check the counterweight stem, sign the pull sheet and leave with a kit that matches the shot list. Nothing is improvised on the loading ramp, because everything was tested the afternoon before.

Pull sheet rail — six services, six different weights

S

Drape Rig Setups

Black wool serge, ultra heavy drape and sheer diffusion panels hung on modular rail, with tested clamp loads and a clean hem line. We measure the room, plot the rail path and bring the right yardage so the set reads black on camera without gaps at the seams.

M

Light Stand Rentals

C-stands, baby stands, combo stands and heavy rollers, each one stripped, checked and re-tagged at the yard. Every stand leaves with a sandbag count on the pull sheet, and the return inspection is as careful as the outbound one.

P

Grip Truck Loadouts

Packed trucks with apple boxes, grip heads, clamps, flags and scrims loaded in the order the day needs them. We build the loadout against the shot list, label each shelf and send a printed manifest that matches what actually rolled out of the gate.

H

Backdrop Cyclorama Builds

Seamless cyclorama walls built from curved corners, painted hardboard and adjustable feet, assembled on site by a two-person crew. We bring the paint, the roller and the dry time so the sweep reads clean at the base line.

K

Track Dolly Packages

Straight and curved dolly track, levelled on wedges and checked with a spirit level before the camera ever lands. Packages include the dolly body, track ends, plywood runners and a spare set of pins for the long days.

D

Overnight Store Pulls

Late-night collections for crews that load after the day shift, with a yard hand on the door and the manifest signed before the truck leaves. The store stays open by arrangement, and the crates are staged by aisle before the crew arrives.

Sloth Motion Production Limited opens its winter rig window for crews that plan their drape, light and dolly pulls early.

A working yard is a working method

Kwai Chung — Hong Kong

Sloth Motion Production Limited sits inside the wider world of computer systems design and related professional services, yet the work we do most days is physical. A production needs a black wall by seven in the morning, a dolly track that runs true and a lighting rig that will not shift under a heavy head. The yard is where those needs become a list, and the list becomes a truck.

We keep the yard honest. Every drape panel is counted on the rail, every stand has a numbered tag, and every crate carries a stencil that matches its shelf position. When a crew asks for a specific weight of serge or a spare set of track pins, the answer is a walk, not a phone call. That closeness to stock is what allows us to promise a clean pull even during a busy season.

The same care runs through our systems work. Playback servers, data cables, monitor feeds and timecode distribution all fall under the computer integrated systems design support we provide to productions that need a technical backbone as well as a physical one. Rig, drape and shoot are the three words that describe the yard, and the systems work exists to keep those three words reliable.

We are a small operation by choice. That keeps the person who answers your first email on the floor with the crew that loads the truck. It also keeps our advice honest, because the person telling you that a heavier drape is worth the extra weight is the same person who will hang it.

The six services on the floor

A drape rig is the first thing a director notices and the last thing a crew wants to adjust at lunch. Our drape rig setups are planned from a floor plan, with rail paths, clamp points and yardage calculated before the truck is loaded. We carry black serge in two weights, a lighter cotton blend for close work and a sheer diffusion fabric for windows that need softening.

Stands take the most abuse of any grip item, so we treat them as a rental line of their own. Light stand rentals from the yard include C-stands with grip heads, baby stands for small units and heavy rollers for large frames. Each one is inspected for bent risers, split collars and worn feet, and the tag on the leg records the date of the last check.

A grip truck loadout should feel like a tool drawer, not a treasure hunt. We pack shelves in the order of the shot list, label each bay and strap the heavy items last. The manifest that travels with the truck is the same document the yard signs at pull time, which makes the return check quick and fair for both sides.

When a set needs an infinite white or a deep painted sky, a backdrop cyclorama build gives the frame a clean edge. We build from curved corner pieces, adjustable feet and rigid hardboard, then paint on site once the seams are filled. The crew arrives with rollers, masking and a drying plan, and the sweep is checked against the lens before the paint fully sets.

Smooth movement is a matter of preparation. Track dolly packages include straight and curved sections, levelling wedges, track ends and a dolly body that rolls without a shimmy. We lay the track with the camera crew, level it against the room, then run a test pass before the first take so the operator trusts the floor.

Some shoots start before the sun and some load after the day shift ends. Overnight store pulls let a crew collect after hours with a yard hand present, a staged aisle and a manifest ready for signature. We confirm the collection window in advance, stage the crates by order number and keep the gate list signed so nothing leaves without a record.

Why crews return to the yard at Goldfield Industrial Building

Checked twice

Every pull is inspected

Stock is checked when it returns and again before it leaves. A stand with a tired collar or a drape with a torn hem does not reach the ramp, and the tag tells the story of both checks.

Planned early

Floor plans before trucks

We ask for the shot list and a rough floor plan so the rig, drape and track can be calculated together. A few minutes of planning at the yard saves an hour on the set.

Answered directly

One contact, one desk

The person who quotes your job is the person who stages the crates. That keeps details from drifting and makes changes on the day simple to confirm in a single message.

Bring the shot list. We will bring the yard.

Tell us the room, the lens and the look, and we will turn it into a pull sheet with numbers you can plan around. For drape, light, grip, cyclorama, dolly or a late collection, write to service@holdviesupply.lat or call +19897887288 during yard hours.
